Stella and Elena’s Journey with CTN:
A Welcoming Place for Kids to Shine

Stella and Elena’s Journey with CTN: A Welcoming Place for Kids to Shine

Over five years ago, Stella and her younger sister, Elena, accessed speech therapy through CTN. At this time, they were also introduced to CTN’s inclusive community events which they continue to attend with their family. The events provide a safe and inclusive space where the family feels supported to allow their kids to try new things, without being judged if challenges occur. Some of the family’s favourite CTN memories are at the inclusive Halloween events. The family remembers the look of joy on Stella’s face when she met a fairy godmother while dressed in her pink princess costume. More recently, in a full circle moment at last year’s Halloween event, the same speech-language pathologist who supported Stella and Elena five years earlier at the beginning of their CTN journey, handed them candy as they sang “trick-or-treat" without having to be prompted – a big milestone for the family. These events make it easy for all kids, including Stella and Elena, to feel included and for parents to feel safe to let their kids learn and explore – helping to create a community of belonging for everyone.
CTN’s events provide a safe and inclusive environment where we feel supported to let Stella and Elena try new things.”

Providing Opportunities for Families to Share Their

Providing Opportunities for Families to Share Their Experiences: CTN’s Family Engagement Forum

At CTN, families are at the centre of everything we do. We believe that listening, learning and working together helps build a stronger, more connected community for everyone. That’s why we created a new Family Engagement Forum (FEF) - a virtual space where CTN families and alumni can connect every few months, share their experiences and insights, and help contribute to meaningful change for CTN and those we serve. The FEF makes it easy for families to drop in when they can and get involved in a flexible, meaningful way. Through this forum, families can offer feedback, learn about upcoming CTN events and opportunities and be a part of conversations that support the evolution of CTN. Their insights help us improve our programs and services to better support kids and youth with disabilities and developmental needs. By working together and learning from families, we’re creating a more inclusive and responsive network for the families we serve.

Caring for the Caregiver:
A Video Series for Families

Supporting caregiver wellbeing is not just important – it's essential to our mission and a key part of how we help families. When caregivers feel well and supported, everyone benefits. CTN proudly launched Caring for the Caregiver, a four-part video series designed to support families with simple, everyday tools for caregiver wellness. Created in collaboration with CTN’s Community and Family Participation Program and experts from the South Asian Autism Awareness Centre, each video focuses on practical strategies for staying grounded and present in daily life. The videos in the series explore how to find balance and practice self-care, embrace mindfulness as a support tool, nurture your inner caregiver and use assertive communication in daily life.

Child and Family Wellness Program

Supporting Family Wellness: CTN’s New Child and Family Wellness Program

CTN’s new Child and Family Wellness Program aims to reinforce the wellness of kids, youth and families by focusing on individual and family strengths, reducing systemic stressors and tapping into healthy strategies. When we are well, we have an increased capacity to create balance, resiliency, growth and enjoyment in our lives. The program was developed by collaborating with CTN families and service providers to identify wellness themes that focus on areas such as physical health, mental wellbeing, rest and respite, access to information and support. Wellness strategies shared through the program help families build on their strengths and external supports. Wellness programs are open to all CTN families in Simcoe County and York Region. Throughout the last year, we have launched several workshops and events, including ENVISAGE for Families, a Self-Regulation parenting course, Coming to Canada Caregiver Panel, Better Together Youth Group and Caregiver Days.
Our new
Child and Family Wellness
program supported
237 kids, youth
and families.

Leveraging the Insights of Employees with Lived

Leveraging the Insights of Employees with Lived Experience: New Policy for Employees

At CTN, we believe that every individual brings something unique to the workplace. We value a diverse workforce including employees who have personal or family experience with disability. Their lived experience provides CTN with a valuable perspective to the work we do. CTN introduced a new policy to support and encourage employees with lived experience to get involved and share their insights. Employees who identify as having lived experience can learn about opportunities to give their feedback and help shape projects and initiatives at CTN. This policy is part of our commitment to creating a diverse, inclusive and compassionate workplace - one where real-life experience helps drive better decisions, sparks innovation and improves how we support kids, youth and families.
