Supporting Klym’s Development: United Care for a Brighter Future

As newcomers to Canada, Klym's family was introduced to CTN for support with their son’s complex disability. CTN’s intake team guided them through the process of registering for services and supported them when completing important paperwork. Through partnerships, the family was quickly connected to medical professionals and began productive collaboration with physiotherapists and occupational therapists. The different therapists and consultants played a key role in helping the family access complex medical equipment that greatly improved Klym’s mobility and independence. The family received a donated stander, which Klym uses daily, helping him do his homework, draw, write and read. More recently, Klym joined a swimming team with therapists, which has been an incredible experience and a crucial support in maintaining his physical activity and continued development. Klym and his family are grateful for the consistent and practical support provided by CTN and our network of service providers. These teams have helped Klym and his family access tools, activities and the care he needs to thrive.
CTN has truly changed our journey. Thank you for helping our son thrive like every child deserves."

CTN’s Days of Significance Calendar

CTN’s communities are made up of diverse families, service providers and employees. We developed a days of significance calendar to support the recognition of awareness dates and holidays. The days of significance were selected based on research, relevance to our scope of work and demographics within the regions CTN serves and allows us to recognize and celebrate special days that are important to our communities.

Bridging the Gap to Support Complex Needs: Delivering Extensive Needs Services in York Region

In April 2024, CTN joined Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital to deliver Extensive Needs Service (ENS) to families in York Region. This critical service is for kids and youth facing medical, physical, developmental and social challenges who might otherwise end up frequently visiting emergency departments, being admitted to hospitals unnecessarily and repeatedly referred to urgent and crisis services. ENS is designed to reduce barriers to accessing timely, evidence-based treatment. It aims to improve the health and quality of life for kids, youth and their families. The services include individualized treatment such as mental health assessments and counselling, managing medications, behavioural intervention, occupational therapy and speech language pathology. The team also works closely with other services in the community to help with transitions. ENS is about bringing the right care to kids when they need it most.

Strengthening Family-Centred Care:
Supporting the Family Experience

Strengthening Family-Centred Care: Supporting the Family Experience

At CTN, we believe that delivering effective care begins with understanding and prioritizing the needs, perspectives and experiences of families. CTN is focused on empowering families to shape their service experience by sharing feedback and addressing concerns. With the support of a Client Experience Specialist, our approach is client and family-centred by increasing our focus on how we listen, respond and adapt to better meet the evolving needs of those we serve. We are creating and continuously improving the ways in which families connect with us to share their feedback in an accessible and easier manner, which is an essential step toward achieving better family experience outcomes. We recently updated our Client and Family Feedback form, making it easier for families to access on our website and provide feedback. This work will help embed a lasting culture of family engagement, ensuring services truly support the development and well-being of kids, youth and their families.

Collaborating with our Partners to Develop Educational Resources for Families: Mealtime Adventures Video

Mealtimes offer rich opportunities for bonding and interaction between caregivers and kids. With the right mealtime strategies, families can create positive routines that make mealtimes less stressful and more enjoyable. CTN, in partnership with Oak Valley Health (Child Development Programs) and York Region Early Intervention Services, launched a new Mealtime Adventures video module for caregivers. This resource is designed to help caregivers understand how different sensory factors, such as taste, texture, smell and sound, can impact a child’s feeding experience. The video offers general strategies to support kids in exploring new foods at their own pace, guided by their curiosity and interest rather than pressure. The strategies shared can help families develop positive, long-term relationships with food in a way that respects each child’s unique sensory needs. Throughout its development, the video was shaped by input from people with lived experience whose feedback influenced the content and approach. Their contributions helped to create a resource that reflects and supports the diverse families we serve.
